Matti Factory is a new creative hub in the heart of Vyborg, a unique city near Saint Petersburg where multiple cultures — Swedish, Finnish, Russian — intersect.
The hub is located in the historic building of the former furniture factory founded by Finnish entrepreneur and furniture manufacturer Matti Pietinen.
The space brings together gastronomy, local businesses, cultural initiatives, and urban communities.
Our challenge was to create a visual identity for a project that connects Vyborg’s historical heritage with a new urban environment and the creative economy.
To do that, we explored Vyborg’s architecture and visual language, the history of the factory and its founder.
The identity is built around the idea of deconstructing Vyborg.
The logo is assembled from modular blocks, much like the factory building itself is made of bricks.
This principle became the foundation of the entire visual system, from wayfinding system to digital formats and merchandise.
The color palette was inspired by the Vyborg cityscape and the textures of the space itself: limestone, tile red, Baltic blue, sky blue, and patina.
The outcome is a flexible identity system with a distinctive visual code that works seamlessly across the urban environment, digital platforms, and project communications, while reflecting the layered and multifaceted character of Vyborg itself.
